Dunmore, Lackawanna County - Wednesday was a special day at the state police barracks in Dunmore.
Several citizens and state troopers were honored for going above-and-beyond what is expected of them.
Several letters of commendation were handed out.
"If somebody needs help, help them! That is how I was raised and that is what you should do," William Lather III said.
Lather and Gordie Potratz were honored for helping to pull a woman from a burning car in Wayne County. Their actions saved her life.
"When we got over the hill, we saw a car laying on its side, sort of on fire," Potratz said. "Before you could even get the car completely stopped, Bill was out of the car."
"It was instinct. It was just get her out fast, whatever you can do to help," Lather said.
Three other Scranton women were honored for their help during a critical drug investigation.
Several state troopers were also honored for their hard work and dedication, including two who helped caught a bank robbery suspect in Archbald.
