17-year-old Ashley Reabuck died in a car crash. Now, the tight-knit Benton area is trying to cope with the tragedy. It happened just before 7:00 Wednesday night in Fishing Creek Township along Zaner's Rohrsburg Road. Troopers say the teen struck several trees and her car landed upside down.
Lori Laubach, of Benton, knew Reabuck as a young girl and her kids go to the same school.
"My daughter sent me a text message that said Ashley had passed away and I was stunned," says Laubach. "My heart goes out to all of her family and all of the friends and faculty. Anybody's life she touched. As a mom it's just something that is devastating to hear about anybody's child and my prayers are with the family," she adds.
As kids hit the legal age to drive Laubach says this is every parent's nightmare. She says, "it just is something you don't want to hear as a mother."
Reabuck was a student at Benton Area High School, which is closed Thursday and Friday because of the Bloomsburg Fair. Police say she was not wearing her seatbelt.
"Ya know, she was well liked and it's just devastating when you have such a small group of kids that, ya know, anything like this is a tragedy," says Laubach.
WBRE is told grief counselors will be available to students when they return to class next week. There is no word yet on what caused the crash.![]()
