State College, Centre County- An emergency meeting of the Penn State University Board of Trustees has been scheduled for 8 p.m.. It's unknown what the board will discuss. On Monday, Steve Garban, the board's chairman, told Eyewitness News there was no pressure being exerted on Coach Joe Paterno to resign. Though most of Tuesday, Paterno's future with the program remained a mystery. Eyewitness News spoke to Paterno on several occasions as he was coming and going from his home. With the exception of his son calling any exit from him "premature," Paterno told reporters he couldn't talk. University administrators effectively silenced the 84-year-old coach earlier, canceling his weekly news conference. At least 200 members of the media were turned away at the door.
Paterno's actions have been called into question concerning if he properly handled reports of sex abuse among one of his staffers. On Saturday, Jerry Sandusky, a former defensive coordinator, was charged in a 40-count indictment alleging child sex crimes. Two university administrators were also charged for failing to report the allegations of abuse.
