West Pittston, Luzerne County- A three story building in West Pittson is being torn down because of flood damage. It is located at the intersection of Linden Street and Luzerne Avenue.
The owner discovered a sinkhole in the building late Monday night. Inspectors determined the hole did not pose a threat to the building. However, a closer inspection of the building uncovered buckling walls on both sides of the structure.
The owner hired a contractor and the razing began just after 5 pm Tuesday. Chuck Remas owns a tanning and fence company in the building. Remas said, "I just can't believe it. This will devastate my businesses. I do not have flood insurance."
Six people live in upstairs apartments, many of the could not be contacted so they will return and not have a place to stay.
