ALS Autograph Party and Auction

Updated: August 23, 2007
On Saturday, July 28, fans will converge on the new PNC Field to meet their favorite Yankees players and bid on sports memorabilia at The Inaugural Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Autograph Party & Auction. The ALS Association started working with the team seven years ago when it was known as the Red Barons. Since that first year, the Autograph Party and Auction has raised more than $240,000 to strike out ALS. This year's goal is to raise more than $40,000 for patient services and research.

ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive, neuromuscular disease affecting men and women in the prime of life. It robs its victims of the ability to move, speak, swallow and, eventually, breathe. The funds raised at this year's event will help The ALS Association continue to provide in-home care, transportation programs, nurse visits, resource groups, assistive technology programs and cutting-edge research throughout their service area.

From 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., members of the Yankees will be signing autographs at various locations throughout PNC Field. There will be a total of six autograph stations featuring at least three players and staff.

In addition to the autograph session, the popular silent and live auctions also return. With autographed baseballs, jerseys, game-used bats, gift certificates to area restaurants, hotels and local businesses, gift baskets and more, there is something for everyone.

The silent auction will run from 12 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. while the live portion will start at 2 p.m. behind the third base dugout.

"This event has grown in popularity every year it has been held," said Yankees PR Director and Event Coordinator Mike Cummings. "Lou Gehrig was one of the greatest Yankees and we take great pride in helping a cause that has his name attached."

Admission for this event is just $10 per person and includes admission to the auctions and TWO randomly selected autograph booth coupons. Additional autograph booth tickets can be purchased for $5 each on the stadium concourse.

Tickets may be purchased in person at the PNC Field box office from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and from 10:00 a.m. to the end of the game on game days. A limited number of tickets will be sold for the event. While tickets may be available at the gate, fans are sencouraged to get their tickets in advance. Phone orders may also be placed with a credit card by calling 570-969-2255 ext 3101.

In a separate promotion, the entire team will be wearing commemorative ALS jerseys in the 7 p.m. game vs. Rochester. The jerseys, which feature a special ALS patch on the left sleeve, will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Auction tables will be located in front of the team store and close every fifteen minutes from 7:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. At the conclusion of the game, fans will pick up their signed jerseys on the field behind home plate.
