PSAC Football Has TV Deal

The exciting, high-powered NCAA Division II college football played in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference will be showcased this fall on a network of Pennsylvania commercial television stations available to 4.8 million cable, satellite and over-the-air households.

SPORTSfever Television Network announced that it will televise this fall 11 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference football games, the first time PSAC football games will be aired live on a weekly basis on a statewide television network.

With major sponsorship support from the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties and in cooperation with the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and its member universities and six commercial television stations affiliated with STN, the "APSCUF College Football Game of the Week featuring the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference" features 10 Saturday afternoon games and one Thursday night game.

"We are excited that SPORTSfever TV has chosen our conference to be the feature of its weekly small college football production," said PSAC Commissioner Steve Murray. "It makes a lot of sense considering the target market. We believe the people of the Commonwealth are going to be treated to a competitive level of Division II football this year. This is a great opportunity for our institutions to showcase what quality programs they have to offer."

The "APSCUF College Football Game of the Week" on the SPORTSfever Television Network begins Saturday September 8 when Millersville University visits Slippery Rock University. STN will visit nine different PSAC campuses for telecasts. The schedule includes an unusual Thursday night game when Slippery Rock visits Lock Haven on November 1 and culminates with the IUP at Bloomsburg game on Saturday November 10.

“APSCUF is pleased to support this new initiative,” State APSCUF President Pat Heilman said. “Athletic events prepare our student-athletes for the game of life. The PSAC Game of the Week on the SPORTSfever TV Network will showcase the talents of our athletes and coaches all across the Commonwealth. It promises to be a great fall season!”

PSAC universities hosting televised games agreed to move kickoffs to a uniform time of 3:05 p.m. Only the October 20 Millersville at Bloomsburg game with a kickoff at 1:30 p.m. and November 10 IUP at Bloomsburg game with a kickoff at noon remained unchanged because there are no lights at Robert B. Redman Stadium. These two games will air live in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton DMA and will air later Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. on the remaining STN affiliates.

"As owner and chief officer of SPORTSfever Media, I sincerely appreciate the overwhelming positive reception this initiative has received from PSAC Commissioner Steve Murray and his staff, University Athletic Department officials, APSCUF representatives and the executives of the commercial television stations which have embraced this new and compelling sports programming," said SPORTSfever TV's Gorden Blain.

"This partnership enabled the launch of this initiative that will further enhance the exposure of the high-caliber of athletic competition offered by the PSAC. With commercial television station affiliates in all six Pennsylvania DMAs, the APSCUF College Football Game of the Week featuring the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference will be available to more than 4.5 million households, far exceeding the number of households of a cable-only network," said Blain.

SPORTSfever Television Network has affiliates which will air the "APSCUF College Football Game of the Week featuring the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference" include WTVE (Philadelphia-Lehigh Valley), WHP My 21-2/WLYH (Harrisburg-Lancaster-York), WQMY/WSWB (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton), WSCW (State College-Altoona-Johnstown), WIUP (Indiana County), WBGN (Pittsburgh) and WBEP (Erie). The WBEP plans to air the games initially on tape-delay.

"We look forward to be able to offer the PSAC games to the viewers of Northeast and Central Pennsylvania for the first time," said Jon Cadman, general manager of WQMY in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

“This is a major accomplishment,” said WBGN Pittsburgh owner Ron Bruno. “Many in the past have dreamed of airing weekly PSAC football games on a statewide basis but this is the first time that it’s been done. I applaud SPORTSfever, the PSAC, the presidents and athletic directors of the state universities and the television stations in other parts of the state for coming together on sports programming that college football fans and the large base of alumni of these state universities in Pennsylvania will watch. We’re excited to be part of it.”
