Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero announced today that the Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired goaltender Nolan Schaefer from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a seventh round selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Schaefer will be assigned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Schaefer, 27, appeared in seven NHL games in the 2005-06 season with the Sharks posting a 5-1-0 record, a 1.88 goals against average, and a .920 save percentage.
The 6-2, 200 lbs native of Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan was originally a fifth-round pick (166th overall) of the San Jose Sharks in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
