breaking news
(Wednesday, May 3) Monroe County`s commissioners have decided to let the county`s burn ban expire on Sunday and now it will be up to individual townships to decide whether to keep it in place.
The county has been hit hard by brush fires since the beginning of the year.
On Tuesday, two brush fires in Marshalls Creek and Polk Township scorched dozens of acres of forest land.
Overall, officials say the public is complying with the burn ban.
Only a handful are choosing to violate it.
People in Monroe County should first call their local municipalities before burning to find out if the ban will be lifted in their township.
