(Wednesday, April 5) Despite the wet conditions Wednesday, a burn ban will soon be in effect in Monroe County.
Commissioners passed a resolution Wednesday prohibiting open burning in all municipalities beginning at noon Friday because there have been so many brush fires.
In fact, there have been over 40 wildfires in the county since February.
14 sparked last Friday alone.
Those caught violating the ban face a fine of a hundred dollars for each offense.
The Bureau of Forestry can also prosecute them under other laws if a burn gets out of control.
The ban will be in effect for 30 days.
