Train Jumps Tracks over Delaware River 10/13/05

A scary situation in Pike County along a cliff above the Delaware River. Just after noon today, a train jumped the tracks... leaving the train cars in danger of plunging into the river. It happened here in Shohola Township just across the border from Barryville, New York. The remote location made it difficult for rescue crews to get to. According to Creek Station Fire Department, the train was hauling garbage dumpsters. One car did contain hazardous material but it did not overturn and nothing went into the river. We`re told a "coupler" on the train broke, which automatically triggers the brakes. The cars slammed together and jumped the tracks. No one was hurt.
