Preventing Suicides on Turnpike Bridge 3/10/05

A suicide prevention fence on the Freedom Bridge in South Abington Township, Lackawanna County will start going up this summer. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission says construction will begin in mid-June or early July. Police have been asking the commission to install a fence, not just to stop jumpers, but to protect people below. Most of the work on the fence will be done during off peak traffic hours and the bridge will remain open during that work.
