Updated: January 25, 2007
Tanya and Kenneth Cabarrus are in the Monroe County jail tonight. They skipped sentencing, after stealing funds from the charter school they ran, and were supposed to sentenced on January 20th, but were no where to be found. Bail bondsmen sent bounty hunters to find the couple, now Tanya and Kenneth Cabarrus are in prison. The couple stole more than $50,000 from the Pocono School of Excellence, a charter school they owned. When the cash went missing, so did the Cabarrus`s. The school was forced to close in December 2003, forcing 230 students back into the public school system. The Cabarrus`s were later found in Georgia, and brought to Monroe County where they pled guilty to the crime. They didn`t however, show up for their sentencing last month. Bench warrants were issued, and bounty hunters once again found them in Georgia. The couple is now in the Monroe County jail, waiting to be sentenced for the financial crime.
