breaking news
The Diocese of Scranton is shutting down Sacred Heart school in Carbondale.
The reason? Not enough students to support the school.
The decision means Sacred Heart Junior/Senior High School and the Sacred Heart Intermediate Center will close at the end of the year. The Elementary School will remain open and it will now house the 4th to 6th graders that went to the Intermediate Center.
The Diocese has looked at closing the school several times since 1995. Now it`s almost 350-thousand-dollars in debt.
The closing comes right after a week long fund-raising effort by the school... a phone-a-thon that raised 180-thousand dollars.
