Updated: January 25, 2007
There have been two big fires in less than five days for the Northumberland County community. It`s the second blaze in less than a week in Shamokin. Fire tore through a double-block home on Oneida Street, then spread to the other side of the duplex. Three people were injured at the scene, including one man who jumped from a second floor window, another man who suffered back and shoulder burns, and Firefighter Steven Jeffrey, who slipped on ice and broke his leg. Investigators are now saying that the fire was sparked by an unattended pot left on the stove. The Red Cross is helping victims forced out by the blaze.
