Latino Community Reacts to Election of New Pope

Hazleton, Luzerne County-Eyewitness News stopped by Holy Annunciation Parish at the Church of Saint Gabriel on South Wyoming Street in Hazleton for midday mass today. This church has the largest Latino Congregations in the city, if not the entire Scranton Diocese.
   Father Victor Leon is from Peru.


"For me I feel very good because Argentina is next to Peru. I am very happy with the new election of the new pope. He's Hispanic speaks Spanish his first language, my first language my community is very happy to identify with the new pope."  Said Father Leon

Father Leon believes that Pope Francis will be a calming force for the Catholic Church..

 "I think the church needs now stability for many things but the new pope is very intelligent very simple humility it's good for us."  said Father Leon

Many in this parish are native of South America including Amilca Arroyo..
 
"Especially in South America we can rebuild our church.The church is going through hard times worldwide South America is no exception."
