Longtime Prison Guard Reacts To Murder of Federal Corrections Officer

Plymouth Township, Luzerne County--    Al Ottensman worked inside the Luzerne County Prison for nealry 30 years and says it is not a job for the faint of heart. Ottensman rose to the rank of Captain and pulled every duty at the prison for three decades. He told Eyewitness News, "I was really saddened by the murder of Eric Williams. So sad t think how young he was and the great things he had yet to accomplish." Ottensman said despite all the training prison guard take the danger is never totally preventable. He added, "The older experience officers try to instill in the younger guys that a prison is not a place to be complacent..bad things can happen at anytime to anybody." Ottensman said, "I hope they find out what happened so maybe other lives can be saved in the future."
