Take a step into the ice age. After a month of building and carving over one hundred tons of ice, Crystal Cabin Fever in Lakeville is once again stopping people dead in their tracks. "It's awesome! The kids, their eyes are open wide and they are so excited."
Mary Landino brought twenty kids to Crystal Cabin Fever for the second year in a row. Little Genna Morrison had only one reaction when she walked in the doors, "Whoa!"
This year's theme is dinosaurs. They also incorporated pieces from the movie Ice Age and the Flintstones and who could forget the dueling 50 foot ice slide?
Families can also watch carvers create new pieces to add to the display. What started out seven years ago as a small idea, has grown into a huge tourist attraction, "I think the first year it was about 2 thousand people. Last year, which was our 6th year, we had 12 thousand people come," explains Mark Crouthamel, Owner of Sculpted Ice Works.
Organizers say this is the perfect way to get people out of the house to shake off cabin fever and enjoy what the Poconos has to offer. Just remember to bundle up!
Crystal Cabin Fever runs through February 24th. This year they are also offering a factory tour so you can see where the ice is made.
