Featuring music by George Kleinsinger and lyrics by Joe Darion, lyricist for Man of La Mancha, the show is written by Joe Darion and Mel Brooks. Brooks is well known for the Broadway musical The Producers. archy & mehitabel is a jazz musical based on the stories and free-verse poetry of Don Marquis, a writer for the New York Evening Sun. Marquis wrote approximately 500 pieces about the adventures of archy starting in 1927 and ending when he died in 1937.
Archy the cockroach, poet, philosopher, moralist, and worshipper of mehitabel, an alley cat, leads the audience through the play. The musical takes the audience into the streets of the big city while archy tries to convince mehitabel to become a respectable house cat.
Teresa Fallon, director of theatre and performing arts, will direct the musical. Jamie Alderiso will play archy opposite Amanda Thomas as mehitabel. Other cast members include Brandon Scott, Cassidy Conroy, Luke Brady, Kelly Pleva, Sam Prentice, Kassandra Richmond, Janel Naro, Erin Weinberger, Courtney Littlefied, and Nicole Weaver.
