Forty Fort, Luzerne County- Law enforcement sources say a Forty Fort woman was brutally and savagely beaten inside her home on January 14. The intruder, whom sources say the victim did not know, used a baseball bat in the early morning attack. Sources say the assault was sexual in nature and happened around 8 a.m..

An officer-in-charge of the Forty Fort Police department would only confirm that an assault had happened in the borough last week. He added that it wasn't believed to be a random attack.

Police sources tell Eyewitness News the victim spent two days in an area hospital and underwent surgery for her injuries. Sources say she has since been released from the hospital.

Police have not disclosed information about her identity. Eyewitness News does not identify victims of sexual assault.

Sources say the victim is a plaintiff in a recent whistle blower lawsuit. Eyewitness News was asked not to refer to details of the suit, so as to avoid identifying the victim.

Police would not comment when asked if they had any leads in the case.

The Luzerne County District Attorney's office confirms they're jointly investigating. A first assistant district attorney declined further comment.
