NEPA Apartment Building Fire Ruled Arson

Firefighters were on the scene almost immediately after the flames broke out. They soon realized that on the other end of the floor was a tenant inside unaware the building was on fire. The neighbor named Frank who lives a few buildings from the fire scene described what happened next. "I saw that people were already coming out of the building and firefighters were actually getting a gentleman out of the top apartment."

That gentleman named Mike didn't want to appear on camera but said he heard from his apartment banging coming from the apartment that went ablaze about an hour before the fire started. Meanwhile, the building's landlord didn't discuss on camera how the fire started. He's just relieved the building still stands.

"I thought that firefighters contained it very quickly so that we had minimal damage. It could have been a lot worse. We could have had a lot of people that were without a place to stay," said Larry Banta. As the investigation moves forward, plans are now in the works to undo the arson damage. "We have only one affected unit that we can do repairs on and then we'll be back in business and ready to go," said Mr. Banta.

A man was detained at the scene of the fire but police have not charged him with the crime. Wyoming borough police are following leads and say they are confident their investigation will soon end in an arrest.
