SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Linsday Sorben was caught by surprise while driving along Mulberry Street in Scranton this morning. "I was just driving by, and I mean you can't miss them. It certainly made me smile and just brightened my morning." says, Sorben. In honor of Martin Luther King Jr., members from the Voluntary Action Center took part in something they call "Make Scranton Smile". "After seeing that, I kind of just want to make someones day a little bit brighter. Even just pay someone a compliment." Sorben adds. The chilly weather didn't stop these ladies from hitting the streets to get people's attention. "We're hoping people will smile and maybe consider volunteering throughout the year, inspire them to service. Look to the voluntary action center for volunteering opportunities." says, Jennifer Wynn. "Well today as a part of Martin Luther King Junior Day, I think it's especially important to think about inspiring one another, serving and building community." says, Laurie McMillan. Volunteers plan on making Scranton smile more often, and hope to hold events like today's at least once a month.
