Mountain Top, Luzerne County-- With winter's first significant storm dropping several inches of snow across the region, plenty of people woke up to a bit of extra work Thursday morning.
PennDOT plows were out well before sunrise Thursday, treating highways like Route 309 in Mountain Top.
And they weren't the only ones.
We found Jimmy Ayre using his pickup truck to shift the snow and ice out of his parking lot at A&R Building Supply.
Ayre noted, "It's a piece of cake, it's easy, it's fun. Last year was no plowing at all. This year it's starting early, so I don't know how the winter's going to turn out."
Sales clerk Mark Gentilesco drew the tougher task clearing the front walkway by hand-- all in anticipation of another surge in customers.
Gentilesco said, "Yesterday was pretty busy. We're pretty good with supplies-- rock salt, ice melt, snow shovels and everything."
Whether you're using a plow, a snow blower, or just a good old shovel-- we got plenty of snow to clean up from this storm.
Gentilesco continued, "I'd say more the latter-- just the shovels. I mean there are a few snow blower sales, but not too much here."
Emerson Logan was taking a hybrid approach-- shoveling when we arrived-- as he cleared his driveway of an estimated 4-5 inches of snow Thursday morning.
Logan explained, "I'm going to get the snow thrower out for the bottom of the driveway. I'm 61 years old, it's too heavy."
Something in his tone told us clearing snow isn't Mr. Logan's favorite particular past time.
He added, "I can't wait. I think it's going to be great if we get some more maybe in February, March, April, May, and June, you know? That would be super-- wouldn't it?"
