Pennsylvania State Police Corporal Daniel Pavlico has been watching the increase in gun sales.

"I am concerned about gun safety."

He said since people are buying so many weapons, they should learn how to use and store them.

"I believe that education is important, training is important and security is important." said Trooper Pavlico

You can find safety training locations through the N-R-A or a local gun club.
They can help you learn the basics.

"The rules of firearm safety will be to treat every fire arm as if it is loaded. Always point the muzzle in the safest possible direction, if you are handling the weapon keep your finger off the trigger and on the trigger guard unless you are on target and justified to shoot."

Guns should be stored safely.

"They have gun locks that will go down through the action of the weapon, through the magazine well and therefore you're not going to be able to put a magazine in the weapon and actually use it." said Trooper Pavlico

If you're concerned those locks won't allow you to grab your gun quickly, corporal pavlico suggests getting a gun safe.

"They can also purchase biometric safes where even in the dark they could slide their hand in to slots on the gun safe it self and access a series of numbers that way."

You should keep guns away from kids and teach them never to touch one if they see one.
A few simple precautions - will keep you and your family safe.

"The main thing is adhering to all safety regulations even when just handling fire arms."

There are free gun locks available at many police stations. State police say you should call your local station to see if they have any available.
