Bartonsville, Monroe County - Construction crews are busy working on a new health care center in Bartonsville. Elisa Chase of Stroudsburg smiled, "I think it's great because of the location right off of 611 you can hop on, hop off."
There was an official groundbreaking at the site on Route 611 Wednesday. The place will be a "medical home." That an office where patients can find most of the services they need in one place rather than traveling throughout the region. Hospital CEO Kathleen Kuck said, "It's immediate care when you need immediate care. It's the Primary Care Physicians office when you need them. It's specialized services when that is appropriate for you as well."
She added that the home will house some specialty services that you won't find anywhere else in Monroe County. That includes a breast care center, vascular care offices, and specialized services for diabetics. Kuck noted, "That allows us to coordinate the care, provide very comprehensive care that is accessible."
Residents say they are looking forward to having a centralized location for their medical care. Pattie Howanitz of Bartonsville said, "We think it's a great opportunity for the community to have Pocono Medical Center up here in Bartonsville."
The Bartonsville Medical Home is scheduled to open sometime next year.
