If any establishments holding a liquor license would like to participate in this year's Safe Ride Program, the materials need to be picked up at Scranton Electric Building, 5th Floor, 507 Linden Street, Scranton, starting December 17th.
Safe Ride will run from Friday, December 21st through January 1st, 2013. The purpose of this joint community effort by the Lackawanna Susquehanna Office of Drug and Alcohol Programs,
The Lackawanna County Tavern Association, Banko, and Maple City Taxi Co. is to reduce the number of drinking/drugging and driving crashes, injuries and deaths in Lackawanna County.
During the holiday season the program offers rides in a non-threatening anonymous manner.
The following guidelines insure the program's success, and we ask you to familiarize yourself with the Safe Ride Provisions.
1. Riders picked up will only be transported to their residence from a bar/social club/restaurant or private party
2. The program will not provide services for passengers requesting transport from one bar/social club/restaurant/party to another bar/social club/restaurant/party.
3. Reimbursement to the CONTRACTOR will be provided up to and including a 15 mile radius. Any mileage over 15 miles will be the responsibility of the rider/passenger.
4. Reimbursement will not include surcharges or tips/gratuities paid to the driver. Only the cost of the taxi fare will be reimburse
5. Taxi company will only accept requests for rides up until 2:00 A.M.
6. Riders must have and submit a Safe Ride voucher form to the driver, and both the rider's and the driver's sections must be completed for the CONTRACTOR to be reimbursed. The driver's section MUST include the actual mileage and the rate per mile.
7. This program is designated for Lackawanna County only. Destinations and rides originating outside of Lackawanna County will not be reimbursed.
Last year, the Safe Ride Program prevented approximately 600 impaired drivers from drinking/drugging and driving, possibly causing injuries or fatalities.
