Saturday, December 1 and Sunday, December 2

 

The Christmas season will come alive on Saturday, December 1 and Sunday December 2 at Christkindlemarkt at the Yuengling Mansion.  The event is hosted by the Schuylkill County Council for the Arts and Vision's Block of Art.  This is the fourth annual German Christmas Market.  Visitors will experience an old world Christmas as they stroll through the beautifully decorated Yuengling Mansion and grounds.  There will be a number of beautiful and unique gifts available for purchase.

    Christkindlmarkt will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on December 1st and from 11 am to 6 pm on December 2nd.

 

 

 The National Park Service and the Millbrook Village Society will present two events to celebrate the holiday season at Millbrook Village in Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.

The Victorian Christmas Celebration is Saturday, December 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Village buildings, decorated in Victorian style, will be open for tours and demonstrations. Park rangers and volunteers will host a number of children's activities in the Van Campen farmhouse, including period toys, games and Christmas crafts. Light refreshments will be available.

 

On Sunday, December 2 at 5 p.m., the annual Christmas Carol Service will be held in the Millbrook Church. All are welcome to attend the traditional carol program. Light refreshments will be available following the service. Both events are free.

 

December 1

The City of Hazleton Welcomes Santa and Mrs. Claus to town!  The event is  now in its fourteenth year under the direction of the Greater Hazleton  Chamber of Commerce.

The festivities will begin at 10:00 a.m. with performances by the students of Sherri O'Donnell's All That Dancin' dance studio. Santa and Mrs. Claus are scheduled to arrive at Citiscape, located in The Hayden Towers Markle Building at 11:00 a.m. Santa and Mrs. Claus, along with several children, will be arriving via a fire truck from the Diamond Fire Company and accompanied by ambulances from APTS.

 

    How is your dart game? Professional Dart Champion John Kuczynski is hosting his annual fundraiser and dart tournament to benefit Toys for Tots.

  It will be held Saturday December 1, 2012 at the Towers Bar in Fern Glen from 6 pm to 2 a.m.. Last year the event raised $21,000 in toys and this year's goal is $25,000.

A Zumbathon to Benefit Salvation Army Co-Hosted by Zebra Communications and YMCA on Saturday, December 1.
   Zebra Communications, the student-run PR agency at Wilkes University and the YMCA to burn off those holiday pounds and help over 600 needy families served by Salvation Army who need food, clothing and gifts. The Event is   Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Big Gym of the Wilkes-Barre YMCA. Participants may dance as long as they're able from 9 a.m. to noon. Breaks for water and snacks will be provided.

 

 

 

 An Old Fashioned Christmas on Main Street will be celebrated on Saturday, December 1st from 9 am to 5 pm.  The Greater Schuylkill Haven Business Association and local businesses are teaming up for a day of holiday fun.  There will be horse drawn carriage rides, carolers, crafts and more.  The theme of the day is a Victorian Christmas.

 

The King's College choir, Cantores Christi Regis, will celebrate the holiday season with free public performance at 7:30 on Saturday, Dec. 1, in the J. Carroll McCormick Campus Ministry Center, located at North Franklin and West Jackson streets.

December 2

 Penn State Hazleton THON will host Vera Bradley bingo from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2 in the gymnasium at Penn State Hazleton. Numerous new Vera Bradley purses, duffels and bags which make great Christmas gifts will be awarded as prizes during the event.

The cost to play bingo is  $25 at the door

The East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) Student Senate is conducting its 13th annual Teddy Bear Drive and has scheduled a holiday party for families in need from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Saturday, December 1, 2012, in the Keystone Room on the ESU campus. Various organizations, clubs, faculty, staff, and volunteers from the local community will help with the festivities.

In preparation for the holiday party, the student senate is conducting a toy drive on campus and in the local community. The Teddy Bear Drive receives many donations from different organizations in the community and benefits less fortunate families and children of the East Stroudsburg and Stroudsburg areas

 

On-Going:

The Eastern Pike Regional Police Department is hosting its third annual pet food drive to support the Pike County Humane Society.  The Drive runs through the end of December citizens may drop off non-perishable pet food items to the police department, located at 10 Avenue in Matamoras.

The Holiday Pet Food Drive is the way to help the non-profit Pike County Humane Society keep up with increasing costs

 

The Holiday   lights at Nay Aug Park in Scranton are now on for the season.  You are invited to stop by and enjoy this holiday tradition. Show runs through January 7, 2013. There is no fee, however, donations are accepted

 

The annual parade of trees is underway at Grotto Pizza at Harveys Lake . This year 25 trees will be featured.  The trees are sponsored by area business and money raised benefits area charities.  All you need to do is stop by vote with a monetary donation for your favorite tree

The Woodhouse Day Spa in Kingston is hosting its 9th annual Holiday Open House and Party on Thursday, December 6th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. During the event and throughout the month of December, the spa will be selling Make-A-Wish stars. All proceeds resulting from the sale of the stars will be donated to the local chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The event is FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, but reservations are required. - Tri-State Actors Theater and The Pike County Historical Society (PCHS) are sharing the joy and laughter this holiday season with two performances of David Sedaris' merrily subversive tale, THE SANTALAND DIARIES on Friday and Saturday, December 7th and 8th. The Santaland Diaries, starring Nicholas Wilder, was adapted for the stage by Joseph Montello from David Sedaris' best-selling book "Holidays on Ice!" The performance begins at 8:00 pm in the Foundation Room of the PCHS, 608 Harford Street, Milford, PA.

 

A Live Nativity will be enacted at the Clarks Green Assembly of God on Friday, Saturday and Sunday - December 14, 15 and 16 from 7pm to 9pm. The inn and stable will come alive with actors and animals portraying Jesus' birth. Christmas carols, hot beverages, cookies and a warm fire will be in the fellowship hall. This is a free event gift to the community from the Clarks Green Assembly of God at 204 S. Abington Road, Clarks Green, PA.

Riverside Fourth Grade Chorus presents, The Nutcracker Suite, at 6:30pm on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at the Riverside High School Auditorium. In this presentation, multiple narrators tell the story of little Clara's dream-like Christmas adventure to the Nutcracker's magical land. Using Tchaikovsky's original music with clever, plot progressing lyrics, this is a true holiday tradition brought to life that will delight audiences of all ages.

 

If you're looking for something unique and locally made for holiday gifts this year, there's one place to go for all your holiday shopping. New Visions Studio & Gallery hosts "Give the Gift of Art This Holiday Season" for the second year in a row. This is a month-long holiday sale and exhibit featuring 23 local artists

Exhibit dates are December 7 through December 24. New Visions is not normally open on Mondays, but they will be on Christmas Eve December 24th for all of those last minute shoppers. There is an opening reception in conjunction with First Friday Scranton on December 7th from 6pm to 10pm
