Hanover Township, Luzerne County-- A local radio station is helping make the holidays a little brighter for folks in need in Luzerne and Lackawanna counties.

The donations started rolling in even before the sun came up -- and our friends at Rock 107 hope to keep that momentum going as they help out two local soup kitchens that provide essential meals to those in need.

Rock 107's listeners-- and our Eyewitness News viewers-- answered the call bright and early to help stock the shelves at the St. Vincent DePaul and St. Francis of Assisi soup kitchens in Wilkes-Barre and Scranton.

Ruth Kobal, of Hanover Township, said, "I saw it on Channel 28 this morning. I want to help out. I know there are people that are struggling now."

Patsy Morris, of Wilkes-Barre, stopped by on her way to work.

She recalled, "Well, I saw you on TV this morning and I said, you know, God's been good to me. And I want to be good to somebody else."

Rock 107's Prospector explained, "The need is even greater than it has been in years past. Think of all the state services and social services that have gone away. Think about the fact that our incomes-- even people with good jobs-- are not keeping up with inflation."

The concept is simple.

Raid your pantry at home and bring in any non-perishable food donations to help feed those in need.

Rock 107's DiRienzo noted, "It's all about food, I mean that's what it boils down to. We want canned goods, we want boxed goods. Anything you can leave on a shelf for about a month-- and it doesn't go bad-- that's what we're looking for with the Pantry Raid."

And Gerrity's is stepping up to the plate to help Rock 107.

They've pre-packaged items that you can purchase here.

It's almost $20 worth of food-- you get it for $9.99.

DiRienzo added, "They give you a coupon so when you come back you get 5% off a future order at Gerrity's. They're really stepping up to help us out with this and we greatly appreciate their help."

And it's clear-- with your help-- we can make the holidays a little happier for everyone in northeastern Pennsylvania.

You can catch Rock 107's DiRienzo and Prospector at Gerrity's Supermarket in Hanover Township until 6PM.

The Pantry Raid continues Thursday from 5:30 in the morning until 6:00 at night at the Gerrity's store in Moosic.

And then it all wraps up Friday at Gerrity's Clarks Summit location.
