Mount Pocono, Monore County - David Parker manages Cramer's Home Center in Mount Pocono. He said the company sold out of most of its generators within three hours Friday morning. He noted, "We had about fifty of them as a company and now it looks like we are down to this one behind me."
While David was saying that to Eyewitness News, a man named George came into the store. He had spent more than an hour searching for a generator. He said, "We've gone to a couple of the Cramer's, and Lowes, Home Depot, I've been around, Tractor Supply. They said we'd be lucky to find one in Monroe County." But George got lucky. For $799 he snagged the last generator in stock at Cramer's.
George said, "We know it could get real ugly with the leaves that are still on the trees. And if there is high wind and a lot of rain it could mean substantial trees are going to come down."
Parker told Eyewitness News learned from last year's severe storms. He said, "People who took their chances last time ended up without power and now they want to make sure they have one."
He also said he has had people call from hours away looking for generators. He has one on reserve for someone from South Jersey. He added, "Last year during the storms we had people calling from Long Island and all over New Jersey and they would just keep driving west until they found generators."
If you are using a generator, make sure you have a carbon monoxide detector. Never use a generator inside a building.
