Gas Prices Drop With The Fall Foliage

Bonnie Nicholson is from Connecticut and says, "it feels good to know, especially when your traveling, that it's coming down somewhat."

The national average price at the pump dropped 9 cents in the past week and the Oil Price Information Service predicts a gallon of gas will be 50 cents cheaper come mid-November. Nicholson says, "50 cents is a lot of money per gallon, especially if you're getting 15 to 20 gallons and it makes a big difference." It is a relief for most people, including Nicholson, who passed through Wilkes-Barre Sunday night on her way from Michigan to Connecticut. "I know a lot of people that want to travel that aren't flying because of the airline prices that are driving and to help them get back home for the holidays, ya know college students driving, it's a win for them," she says.

The drop comes later than past years -- usually the price begins to fall following the summer driving season -- but with it happening closer to the middle of November -- most families will have something else to be thankful for.

Ariley Peralta, of Wilkes-Barre, says "it makes me feel good because for the past couple of months they have been outrageous, so I think it's going to be a good thing for us, especially with the holidays coming." Generally at this time of year gas prices begin to fall, but some people think that this year it's politically motivated. Nicholson says "all I know, I think it has a lot to do with the election coming up, so the election is a big thing and everybody is waiting to see and I think after the election your going to see a big difference."

No matter the reasoning, everyone seems to agree that eventually we'll need an alternative.

David Massaker is also from Wilkes-Barre and shares his secret to saving, "I ride my bike most of the year because I don't want to put gas in my car because it's too expensive."

AAA says the drop this time of year is due to a decrease in demand after the summer driving season and a switch to cheaper fuel blends.
