Wayne County Tax Worker Arrested for Theft & Forgery

Honesdale, Wayne County - A Wayne County government worker is facing criminal charges after detectives she she stole money from people who had just paid their taxes.

Jeannie Brooks of Prompton was charged with theft and forgery on Wednesday.

Prosecutors say Brooks worked in the Wayne County Tax Claim Bureau and stole the money over the course of the last year.

Investigators say Brooks took more than $11,000 during that time.

A release from the Wayne County Commissioner's Office indicates that Brooks is no longer a county employee.

She was released on $50,000 unsecured bail in Wayne County.
