Scranton,
Lackawanna County - A school in Lackawanna County is fighting a mold
problem and Monday night school board meeting got out of control as
parents and district leaders battled over the mold
found in an elementary school.
The school
board voted Monday night to move the students from Prescott Elementary
school to Nativity of Our Lord Elementary at the end of the month but
the meeting got heated when the timeline of
events surrounding mold at Prescott elementary was exposed. Officials say the problem was discovered back in February but the report was misplaced now parents are outraged.
Parents say
it all boils down to the health welfare and safety of their children
and they believe the school board violated that. Countless
parents
say their children have been sent home sick with allergy like symptoms
and they believe it all comes back to the mold found at Prescott
Elementary.
An air
quality test done by an environmental engineering firm at Prescott
Elementary school back in February revealed a potential mold problem but
the report was accidentally filed in the Audubon
folder. The Scranton school district closed Audubon Elementary school last year due to mold. Another
round of tests in September at Prescott revealed high levels of mold in the multipurpose room. An intense cleaning was done but there is still mold in the walls but air
quality is considered safe.
The students will move to Nativity of Our Lord Elementary school on October 29th. They will stay there until
the mold problem at Prescott is rectified. They say that can take anywhere from 3-6months
