Children's Wing At Osterhout Library Marks Milestone

Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County-

The Osterhout Free Library will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Ken L. Pollock Children's Wing on Saturday, September 29th. This Rain or Shine, FREE event begins at 11 AM and runs until 4 PM on the patio at the Osterhout Library, located at 71 S. Franklin Street in downtown Wilkes-Barre.

The schedule of events:

11-11:30 a.m. - Tuckers' Tales Puppet Theatre presents

THE BOOKANEERS!

11:30-12:15 p.m. - Storyteller and Musician Mary Baker

1:00-1:30 p.m. - Awards program and refreshments

(Special presentation to the Pollock Family in honor of the anniversary.)

1:30-2:30 p.m. - Storyteller and Spinner Fiona Powell

2:30-3:00 p.m. - Tuckers' Tales Puppet Theatre presents

AESOP'S FABLES

3:00-4:00 p.m. - Pat Ward's Magic Show & Balloon Animals

 

The Children's Wing opened on October 3, 1982, marking the end of a two-year capital campaign which raised $700,000. The largest single donation, $100,000, came from Ken L. Pollock. The two-floor wing more than tripled the space available for children and is home to books, computers, DVDs, CDs, magazines, and audio books all for kids.

On Friday the Osterhout Free Library held its annual Fall Gala and Atlantis Adventure Raffle .  The Gala was held at the Westmoreland Club.     Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs sponsored the Atlantis Adventure Raffle.  All proceeds from the Atlantis Adventure Raffle and the Fall Gala will support the Osterhout Free Library and its mission to provide free books, DVDs and educational programs to the residents of Wilkes-Barre and surrounding communities.
