Spring officially begins on March 20th but the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees are thinking summer and are more than ready for warmer temperatures, longer days and a brand new baseball season. The Yankees will host their second annual Spring Fest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, giving fans a chance to purchase single-game tickets, meet a former Yankee and reacquaint themselves with PNC Field.
In addition to giving fans their first chance to purchase individual tickets for the 2008 season at PNC Field, fans can also purchase tickets online at www.swbyankees.com or www.ticketmaster.com., over the phone by calling Ticketmaster at 570-693-4100 or at any Boscov’s or Gallery of Sound Ticketmaster outlet in NEPA.
Spring Fest will provide guests with the opportunity to meet former Yankees pitcher Tommy John, who will be on hand to greet fans and sign autographs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. John played in the big leagues from 1963 to 1989, pitching for the Indians, White Sox, Dodgers, Yankees, Angels and Athletics. The southpaw gained fame after successfully undergoing elbow reconstruction surgery—a procedure that’s now known as “Tommy John surgery”—in 1974.
The Yankees will also unveil PNC Field’s new “Frontier Fan Zone,” which will be located just inside the stadium’s main gates. The “Frontier Fan Zone” includes a bounce house, a carnival-sized pop-a-shot basketball game, a speed pitch and a hitting challenge area for fans to test their skills. Additionally, fans will be able to get a behind-the-scenes look at the expansive Yankees’ clubhouse.
“We’ve been cooped up in our offices all winter long, and we’re ready to get the show started,” Yankees’ Executive Vice President/COO
Fans will also have the unique opportunity to purchase 2007 game worn Scranton/Wilkes-Barre game jerseys. More than 30 Yankees home jerseys worn during the 2007 regular season will be available for purchase. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees merchandise will also be for sale in the team store as well as other Yankees items.
The Yankees will play each team in their division 16 times while facing non-division foes eight times apiece. Two big rivalries to watch out for in 2008 will be against the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs (Philadelphia Phillies) and the Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston Red Sox). The Iron Pigs, the Phillies new Triple-A affiliate, will visit PNC Field April 3-6, August 14-15 and August 22-23 while the Pawtucket Red Sox visit May 17-20, July 4-5 and August 4-7.
The PNC Field Box Office will be open 10-4 on Saturday, 10-5 M-F and from 10:00 a.m. to the end of the game on game days.
