Fernville Damage Brings Many to Tears

Fernville, Columbia County - The borough of Fernville in Columbia County was heavily damaged by flooding.

People are just starting the clean-up process.

"We're survivors, you know we will pull through," Debra Houser said.

For people along Walnut Street in Fernville, the long road to recovery begins with a short trip to dumpster.

After Fishing Creek roared out of its banks, homeowners are once again cleaning up.

"It doesn't get any easier because our age is going against us now so its a lot harder but we have a lot of family who's here to help," Houser said.

The damage is all around town. The Main bridge in the community collapsed and a camper even sits in the creek.

"The thing that amazes me about this whole experience is that people really do pitch in and you do find out where people really do find out where people's hearts are when you go through something like this," Ann Kelly said.

Kelly has gone four days without a shower.

"When I saw the MRE's and the water and the port-a-potties, I started crying," Kelly said.
