Two More Flooded Counties Added to Federal Aid List

Updated: January 7, 2009
(Thursday July 6) The Federal Emergency Management Agency has added Columbia and Northhampton Counties to the list of areas that qualify for financial aid. That brings the total to 10 local counties. But 9 days after the Lackawanna River poured over it`s banks, FEMA still has not made a decision about whether Lackawanna County will get disaster assistance. The designation means homeowners, renters, and business owners in those counties affected by the flooding are eligible for financial aid in the form of grants and low interest loans. Still FEMA officials were in the county Thursday assessing the damage. A decision is expected by early next week. Meanwhile Flood victims in those 10 designated counties can apply for Federal aid by calling 1-800-621-FEMA or by logging onto www.fema.gov.
