Smokey Cockpit Grounds Plane Headed to Avoca (Tuesday, May 9) Investigators say a faulty fuse in a windshield heater caused a scare in the sky this morning. A plane bound for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport was forced to land at a rural airport in Western Pennsylvania. That`s because the cockpit filled with smoke. 8 passengers and 3 crew members were on board. After the scare, only one woman continued her flight to Avoca. WYOU News spoke with her when she landed. "It happened so fast. It was, like, they told us and we were done. It wasn`t any of those - ‘my life flashed before my eyes -- nothing like that," said passenger Sandy Schiffauer. The other passengers on the plane "rented" cars to continue their trip.
