Updated: January 7, 2009
(Wednesday, April 19) While fire crews were battling another brush fire in Luzerne County Wednesday, leaders passed a law banning outdoor burning. Dozens of firefighters worked deep in the woods of Plains Township to extinguish yet another brush fire. This time it came dangerously close to some mobile homes in the Pocono Mobile Home Park. The blaze consumed close to 20 acres of forest. Meanwhile, Luzerne County commissioners enacted a 30 day burn ban Wednesday night because of fire ripe conditions. Wednesday, Luzerne and Wyoming Counties joined Susquehanna, Lackawanna, Pike, Monroe, Lycoming and Northumberland Counties, which all have burn bans in effect.
