Bureau Of Forestry Gives Tips To Protect Home From Forest Fires

Updated: January 7, 2009
(Monday, April 17) The state Bureau Of Forestry was back at the scene of a weekend brush fire in Scranton Monday. They`re making sure the flames don`t flare back up after the latest fire came within about 300 yards of homes on East Mountain. Scranton city forester Tony Santoli says area residents who live near woodlands should clear vegetation that would burn up to their house. He also says putting things such as gravel or some non-cumbustable material at least 50 feet from the back door of a house will go a long way in protecting it and residents should keep the garden hose ready because of the extremely dry conditions that make brush fires a more serious threat than usual.
