Suspicious Device Detonated in Bradford County

(Wednesday, April 12) There were some tense moments in one Bradford County community today. At first police in Troy thought they were dealing with a bomb. It all started when a bicycler found what he thought was a bomb in a remote part of Troy around two this afternoon. Detectives say the man then picked it up and carried it into the center of town. State police suggested the immediate area be evacuated as a precaution and they also shut down a nearby roadway. "They suggested we block the area off, contain it, and they actually sent two gentlemen from Hershey by helicopter to take care of this item," said Chief Kyle Wisel. Those State Police experts detonated the item. Closer inspection revealed it was not an explosive device. Officials say the public was never in any danger. They can`t say for sure how long the suspicious device had been lying around. The roadway that was shut down reopened after about five hours.
