Kingston Police Warn About Phone Scam

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
(Tuesday, April 4) Kingston police are warning people to be careful of a phone scam that seems to be targeting area residents. About two weeks ago, a woman was contacted by a person claiming to represent a company called "North American Prize Pool". She was told she won money in a contest by three major companies and that she had to send 10 thousand dollars for "legal fees and taxes". She never received the cash prize and investigators discovered others have been victimized by the scam. Police say people should never send money in order to receive prizes and they should investigate the validity of contests before participating in them.
