Northumberland Officer Bitten and Stabbed

(Tuesday, March 28) A probation officer was stabbed and bitten today trying to capture a man who fled from Northumberland County authorities. Probation officers were doing a random check at 19-year-old Micah Hepler`s Shamokin home when he fled on foot. Police were called in to assist the officers and found Hepler on one street holding a knife and broomstick handle. He was eventually caught after a struggle. Probation officer Jimmy Cortelyou was stabbed in both thighs and also bitten on his arm when he tried to catch Hepler before police arrived. He was taken to Shamokin Area Community hospital where he was treated and released.
