More Trouble For Steam Heat Company

Updated: January 7, 2009
(Tuesday, March 28) There`s more trouble for the company that provides steam heat to business and office buildings in Scranton. An investigation by the state Public Utility Commission has revealed the Community Central Energy Corporation has been using revenue from customers to pay off loans from The First National Community Bank of Dunmore instead of paying for the gas it burns to produce steam. The supplier, PG Energy, has a past due bill from last month totaling $241,000. The P.U.C. issued an emergency order Tuesday afternoon which requires the steam heat company to have its customers send their payments to a P.O. Box, which will be set up by PG Energy. 80 percent of the money will be used to pay the gas bills and 20 percent will go to the steam heat company to run its operation.
