Candlelight Vigil Supports Child Charged as Adult

Updated: January 7, 2009
(Friday, March 17) It`s a case packed with emotion. A candlelight vigil was held in front of the Monroe County courthouse Friday night to show support for a 12-year-old charged with killing his cousin. That`s because Djinn Buckingham is being charged as an adult for allegedly starting the fire that killed his 11-year-old cousin. The boy`s supporters say they will be there every Friday night until his case is moved to juvenile court. Buckingham`s mother is now working with a national organization called betrayed innocence, to get her son out of adult jail. So far, betrayed innocence has over 300 signatures in support of the family. The boy`s mother is also working to get her kids back after they were removed by children`s services after the fire.
