Updated: January 7, 2009
(Friday, March 17) Wilkes-Barre police are taking steps to make their presence felt in and around the downtown. After more than a decade on hiatus, the police department re-installed its foot patrol unit late last month. Officers have been patrolling the area around public square. Local business owners, like Harshad Patel, say the police presence is a welcome site. Down the road, the department hopes to expand its foot patrol unit, but for now it`s using extra manpower when possible. The police department is also thinking about re-deploying its motorcycle and mounted patrols.
