Sabourin Goalie of Month

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins netminder Dany Sabourin has been named the Koho/AHL Goaltender of the Month for January, it was announced today. In recognition of his achievement, Sabourin will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Penguins home game. Sabourin, 25, posted a 7-2-1 record with a 2.26 goals against average and a .922 save percentage in 10 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton during February. The sixth-year pro also earned a recall by the Pittsburgh Penguins and appeared in the 2006 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Game during the month. The native of Val dOr, Quebec currently leads the American Hockey League in goals against average (2.04) and save percentage (.931), is tied for second with three shutouts and tied for third with 20 wins. Sabourins 20 victories thus far are the second-highest single-season total in Penguins history (Marc-Andre Fleury, 26 in 2004-05) and his 28 career wins are third-most in team history (Fleury - 36, Sebastien Caron - 48). Sabourin enters Friday nights game against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers with a career AHL record of 53-39-10 with nine shutouts and a 2.43 goals against average in 111 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Lowell and Saint John. Originally drafted by the Calgary Flames in the fourth round (108th overall) in the 1998 Entry Draft, Sabourin was signed by the Penguins as a free agent prior to the 2004-05 season. Sabourin is the second Penguins goaltender to win the award this season. Marc-Andre Fleury was named the recipient of the award for October, after recording a 6-0-0, a 1.17 goals-against average and a .955 save percentage in six starts during the month. Other nominees for Koho/AHL Goaltender of the Month include Frederic Cloutier of Bridgeport, Joey MacDonald of Grand Rapids, Al Montoya of Hartford, Seamus Kotyk of Houston, Vitaly Kolesnik of Lowell, Pekka Rinne of Milwaukee, Mike McKenna of Norfolk, Jamie Storr of Philadelphia, Jordan Sigalet of Providence, David LeNeveu of San Antonio, Martin Prusek of Syracuse and Jean-Francois Racine of Toronto.
