Veteran East Stroudsburg University baseball coach Roger Barren has announced he will resign his position at the end of the season, effective May 26, to pursue business ventures, ESU Athletic Director Dr. Tom Gioglio announced.
Barren, now in his 13th season, holds an MBA in Human Resource Management and is moving into the administration field.
"This is something that has been in the works for a while," Barren said. "It is really like a retirement from coaching to me because I just dont expect to coach in the future."
Barren has racked up over 400 victories during his career - including 234 at ESU -- and helped the Warriors break numerous school records.
"Roger Barren has been ESU baseball for more than a decade," Gioglio said. "His work in recruiting and with the student-athletes is certainly appreciated by the administration and myself. Roger felt it was time to move on and is excited about future opportunities and we wish him all the best."
Continued Barren, "Its been a long run. I am very thankful to my wife and family for the many sacrifices they have made to allow me to do this for so long. I have really enjoyed helping the student-athletes over the years."
A national search for Barren`s replacement will begin this semester.
