Updated: January 25, 2007
Hurricane Katrina causes a big jump at the pump, as gas prices in Northeastern Pennsylvania, and the rest of the nation skyrocket. WBRE News stopped by Our Family Mini Mart in Tamaqua were gas prices are at $3.15 a gallon for regular unleaded. Station owner Lisa Hope says she had to pay a tanker to fill her station today and that`s why it`s a more than $3 dollars a gallon. Gas prices have gone up .66 since Saturday. We checked prices at other gas stations in Luzerne County, they were running from $2.75 to $2.89 a gallon for regular unleaded. Hurricane Katrina shut down off shore oil drilling platforms, and refineries in the Gulf Coast region causing this latest jump in prices.
