Karen Buch, RD, LDN currently serves as the Director of Lifestyle Initiatives for Weis Markets, Inc., a regional grocery store chain with 154 stores in 5 states.
Karen launched the Weis Healthy Bites consumer education program in 2003. She is responsible for developing and implementing programs that promote health and wellness, areas of major focus for Weis Markets. Karen represents Weis Markets through weekly television appearances and radio messaging and at community events. She also provides timely nutrition information to consumers through the Weis Healthy Bites newsletter published 6 times per year, the weekly weis circular and at www.weismarkets.com . From 2005 to 2007, Karen served as the Registered Dietitian for the Million Pound Meltdown weight management campaign created to address the problem of obesity in 13 counties in Northeastern Pennsylvania. A Registered Dietitian since 1995, Karen is experienced as both a Clinical and Community Dietitian. As a nutrition educator, she taught group classes for the management of diabetes and weight, conducted one-on-one counseling sessions for disease management, designed and led supermarket shopping tours, and provided community education via radio, local television, newspaper, and health fairs. Karen holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition from Albright College, Reading, PA. She completed the American Dietetic Association Internship at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA and is a Pennsylvania State Licensed Dietitian-Nutritionist. She is an active member of the American Dietetic Association, Pennsylvania Dietetic Association and Food Marketing Institute Consumer Affairs Committee. Karen was also recently named a Woman of Influence in the Food Industry by the 2009 Griffin Report.
