Reported by: Eyewitness Sports Sunday, Aug 23, 2009 @01:30am EDT LAS VEGAS- The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers squared off with the Spokane Shock of Washington state in Arena Cup X at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas Saturday night.
It was the second time in three years the Pioneers made it to the final game. Spokane beat the Pioneers during the regular season. Pioneers quarterback Ryan Vena was looking forward to the shot at redemption. It was also a rematch of the league's two best teams. But it was not to be. The Pioneers trailed 14-0 early but rallied to take a 21-20 lead at halftime. However it was all Spokane in the second half as they scored 8 touchdowns against the "shocked" Pioneers to win 74-27. After the game the Pioneers and head coach Rich Ingold expressed their disappointment in not having their best effort in the year's biggest game. |
