an 11-3 win over the Williamsport Crosscutters Sunday evening that stretched the
Spikes' winning streak to four.
State College set a season high with 16 hits in the game. The Spikes now stand with a record over .500 for the first time since August 21, 2007, when they were 29-28. Edward Garcia and Justin Byler each went 3-for-4 for State College. Garcia collected three runs batted in and also stole a base, while Byler ended with a double, two runs scored, and a run batted in. Evan Chambers also continued his strong start in a Spikes uniform. The Pirates' 2009 third-round draft choice went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two runs batted in. The Spikes' double-play combination of Brock Holt and Ty Summerlin also contributed two hits apiece, with Summerlin driving in a run.
State College and Williamsport will next meet at Historic Bowman Field at 7:05 p.m.on Monday night to complete the three-game series. The Spikes will send right-hander Ricardo Paulino (0-0) to the hill, while the Crosscutters will give the ball to right-hander Joshua Zeid (0-2). |
